Hi! I'm Susan
(I also get called Sarah a lot. Because Terminator)
So what do you do?
I help writers and teams create stories for games.
I partner with studio heads, narrative designers,
level designers, other writers, animators,
and creative directors to get the job done.I've worked on over 25 titles, from AAA to indie.
Titles in my portfolio have sold over 30 million copies and generated over $500 million in sales.
Past clients include Ubisoft, Microsoft,
LucasArts, Netflix, 2K, Warner Brothers, and Telltale Games.
I've worked with teams through all stages of production,
from concept to content lock -
developing ideas, creating characters,
writing storylines and narrative designs...
(and then putting out fires when everything goes nuts.)
I also founded the Game Narrative Summit at GDC,
and I teach a course in game writing at
the University of Texas at Austin.I teach master classes and hands-on workshops
for writers who work in games, TV, film, and theater -
creatives who want to be a part of this multi-billion-dollar industry.Where do you do it?
I work with clients and students worldwide.
I live on Zoom (and I bet you do, too). Why do you do what you do?
I do this because I love writing, and writers -
and games give us an incredible new way to tell stories.
Here's how I think about it:
game writing is dramatic writing,
just like theater or television.
But what makes it exciting and weird is that
the writer does not control the story;the audience does.
We've barely scratched the surface of what's possible.
And that's AMAZING. Who knows what's next?I share everything I've learned about writing for games
because I believe a rising tide lifts all boats.
For writers - across all industries - games are the new frontier.
